Dressed For Success
"This is an exciting time for Watoto as some of the first Watoto children have now graduated high school and are attending universities."(Watoto) This is an exciting time for young people across Prince Edward Island as they too graduate from high school. There's a thread that connects these two groups. That thread is our friend Karyn, whose passion for people, and especially young people, is obvious the minute you meet her. Karyn spends countless hours helping students across the Island look their best for prom. Yet despite her workload, she was willing to respond to the need in Uganda. Karyn is captain of Team Rachel, one of our fundraising teams. Each year Karyn's business, Costumes-by-Chance, supports a charity of the school's choosing by donating $5 from each tuxedo rental for prom. This year students at three schools, Bluefield, Charlottetown Rural, and Colonel Gray decided to use the donations to help build a Watoto home for eight orphans in Uganda. Karyn's business is also donating $5 from each wedding tuxedo rental. A tiny thread becomes part of a magnificent dress in the skilled hands of a seamstress. One person's passion and generosity becomes part of an extraordinary mission to rescue children and change lives a continent away.
