It's Not About Us

As we launch this blog we thought it would be a good idea to tell you about our relationship with Watoto.
In April of this year the Watoto Children's Choir from Uganda visited Long Creek Baptist Church.
Our visit began Saturday evening with a pot-luck meal and worship time. Afterward the children went home with host families from the church.
The following day the choir performed to a packed morning service at the APM centre in Cornwall.
Singing, dancing, laughter and tears filled the APM centre as the children touched us with their stories of hope, perserverance and faith in the Lord.
Since 1994 the Watoto Children's Choir has toured internationally as ambassadors for Watoto, an orphan care program based in Kampala, Uganda.
"Concerts of Hope" raise awareness of and money for Watoto's vital work among some of Africa's most needy children, victims of civil war and AIDS.
Watoto villages are constructed to house and nurture the most desperate children. The village includes clusters of homes each of which houses eight children and a house mother, a primary school, water project, medical clinic, and a multi-purpose hall for use as a church and community center.
As a church we have decided to raise the necessary funds to build a home ($30,000 CDN). God willing a team will be in Uganda from May 2nd -16th 2008.
